A large and growing community of Italian professionals is building careers in Sweden. Separately. SINAPSE brings them together -organised around the scientific and professional themes where Italy and Sweden have most to gain from each other - and turns a dispersed community into a visible, connected force. Joining SINAPSE means becoming part of the first organised Italian-Swedish community of highly skilled professionals. It means access to a network built deliberately, around shared priorities, and designed to generate real collaborations - not just contacts.

How to Apply - 3 steps

Step 1 — Submit your application Send an email to network.sinapse@gmail.com with the following:

  • Your current role and institutional affiliation
  • Your areas of professional or research expertise, and please, do not be shy. Tell us who you are, what you have built, what you are working on. Junior or senior, early career or established, we want to know you, and we will come to you.
  • Whether you are interested in contributing to the Executive Board or as a Scientific Macro-Area Chair, do not underestimate what you can bring. This community needs your experience more than you might think.

This information allows the Board to understand how you connect to SINAPSE's mission and how the network can best serve your interests.

Step 2 — Review by the Executive Board All applications are reviewed by the Executive Board, which confirms alignment with SINAPSE's objectives and ensures the community remains relevant and focused. This is not a competitive selection - it is a quality check in service of all members.

Step 3 — Confirmation and welcome You will receive an email confirming your membership, along with instructions for the annual fee and access to the member community, upcoming events, and network channels. Your SINAPSE membership begins immediately upon confirmation.

SINAPSE does not verify the information submitted and relies entirely on the honesty and good faith of its applicants. You accept full responsibility for the accuracy of the data you provide. SINAPSE, registered as a non-profit association (förening) under Swedish law, reserves the right to revoke membership at any time if the information provided is found to be false, incomplete or misleading. What We Do!

Annual Membership Fee

  1. 500 SEK / year — senior members
  2. 250 SEK / year — early-career researchers and PhD students (under 35)

The membership fee is the only resource that sustains SINAPSE's activities. As a non-profit association, every krona goes directly into the programmes, events and initiatives that benefit the community. There is no commercial income, the network runs on the commitment of its members.

Individual Membership Who Can Join ?

Membership is open to anyone with a genuine professional or academic connection to both Italy and Sweden. This includes:

  • Researchers and academics at any career stage
  • Physicians and healthcare professionals
  • PhD students and early-career researchers
  • Professionals working in innovation, technology, engineering and cultural sectors
  • Professionals of any nationality based in Sweden or Italy with active Italy-Sweden collaborations
